ABOUT
My name is Neila Franch González
I was born and raised in Barcelona (Spain), but, as a child, I had the opportunity to travel a lot with my family. I started taking pictures then, with a little compact camera I had eagerly received for Christmas. It was the best present ever, but the photos did not live up to the hype. Honestly, I did what I could at 10 years old.

Later, I started using my parent’s digital camera. I did it as a hobby: I took photos and videos when I was on vacation, or when I went out with my friends. I also started taking pictures of the books I read, which uniting two of the passions I had inside me: reading and photographing.

As I got older, I kept dreaming of having my own good camera. I did a lot of research, but I did not have enough savings for it, so my grandpa, who also loved photography when he was younger, decided to lend me his digital camera.

Why journalism? I still do not know how I came up with that idea. But it completely works: I love writing, photographing and filming… I am curious to know what happens in the world, and I want to actively document it. That is why my camera, my notebook (or laptop) and I are always together, trying to communicate the best way we can powerful stories.
